The Certificado de Antecedentes confirms character for both applicant and sponsor. Where a previous marriage existed, a divorce certificate is also required.
    • Student visa (subclass 500): The Título Universitario and Certificado de Concentración de Notas are required by the institution and the Department of Home Affairs to confirm academic qualifications. The Certificado de Nacimiento confirms identity.
    • Skilled visa (subclass 189, 190, 491): The Título Universitario and academic transcript are required by the skills assessment body. The Certificado de Antecedentes is required for the character assessment.
    • Employer sponsored visa (subclass 482, 186): Employment letters and the Título Universitario confirm qualifications and work history. The Certificado de Antecedentes is required for the character assessment.
    • Citizenship: The Certificado de Nacimiento confirms identity and parental relationships. The Certificado de Matrimonio confirms name history where relevant. The Certificado de Antecedentes confirms good character.

How to prepare your Chilean documents for translation

The Registro Civil e Identificación in Chile issues civil documents both in physical form and as official digital certificates through its online portal (registrocivil.cl). Both physical and digital versions are accepted for NAATI-certified translation. Before uploading, ensure your scan or digital file shows the complete document including all text, the official folio number, QR code or verification code where present, and any stamps or signatures. If your document has multiple pages, all pages must be included. The Certificado de Antecedentes para Fines Especiales must be the version specifically issued for international or special purposes — not the basic internal version. Documents do not need to be apostilled before translation for Australian immigration purposes, unless specifically required by the receiving authority.
