Tamil Nadu, India — academic records
Tamil Nadu Academic Record Translation into English
Tamil Nadu institutions list their student services separately. Anna University's student services page, for example, sets out marksheets and gradesheets, consolidated statements, degree certificates, transcripts and medium-of-instruction certificates as distinct services (aucoe.annauniv.edu). Knowing which one you hold matters, because a translation reproduces that record and nothing else. NAATI-certified, $59 per selected page, complete order within 24 hours.
Which record are you sending us?
Anna University is a named example, not a template for every institution in Tamil Nadu — document sets differ, and not every record needs translating.
- A semester marksheet or gradesheet covers one period of study
- A consolidated statement summarises results across the programme
- A degree certificate records the award, not the marks behind it
- An official transcript is issued and often dispatched by the university itself
- A medium-of-instruction certificate is a separate document again
- Many Tamil Nadu academic records are already issued in English
Issued by: The Tamil Nadu university or board that issued the record — for example Anna University, Chennai

NAATI Certification
How we translate Tamil Nadu academic records
Our NAATI-certified Tamil translators reproduce the record as printed: institution, programme and course names, subject codes, marks or grades, maximum marks and credits, the result and award wording, and any grading legend on the page. Seals and signature blocks are described where they sit. A translation is not a newly issued official transcript, not a university authenticity check, and not a qualifications assessment. If your assessor needs a transcript sent directly by the institution, order that from the university (aucoe.annauniv.edu).
- Marksheets, gradesheets and consolidated statements
- Degree and provisional certificates
- Course names, grades, credits and award wording preserved
- Grading legends translated so the scale stays readable
- Medium-of-instruction certificates where supplied

Frequently asked questions
Who issues a academic transcript in India (Tamil Nadu) and Sri Lanka
Tamil Nadu State Board and CBSE mark statements cover Class X and XII; university transcripts and consolidated marksheets come from the Controller of Examinations at Anna University, the University of Madras and their affiliated colleges. Anna University reports a CGPA with a conversion formula printed on the reverse, and that formula is translated so the assessor can apply it.
Tamil-language documents reach us from different jurisdictions, and they are not one system. In Tamil Nadu, births and deaths are registered by the Registrar of Births and Deaths in the corporation, municipality or town panchayat, and the state's civil registration service publishes its own guidance on how copies are issued ([crstn.org](https://www.crstn.org/birth_death_tn/AboutUs/FAQ.pdf)). In Sri Lanka the equivalent records are issued by the Registrar General's Department, a separate issuing context with its own forms. Education records come from the institution or board that issued them — Anna University is one example among many, not a general rule. Work from the issuing office and document title printed on your own copy.
What your certified English translation reproduces
Every certified translation we issue is a complete rendering of the source document — not a summary. For a Tamil academic transcript that means:
- Every subject or unit name, the period studied and the result recorded
- Credit values and the local grading scale, reproduced with the scale legend
- Cumulative averages and any classification or honours statement
- Enrolment and completion dates, mode of study and language of instruction where stated
- Institution name, faculty, registrar signature and page-of-page numbering
- Verification codes or online-verification references printed on the document
Tamil names, dates and script
Tamil names are sometimes recorded with an initial before the given name — R. Karthikeyan, S. Meenakshi — and Australian forms may read that initial as a first name or as a middle initial. Romanisation of Tamil script is not standardised, so more than one English spelling of the same name can be legitimate. Look at your own document to see which languages and spellings it actually carries; some are bilingual and some are not. We reproduce what is printed. Where a name or date differs from your passport or other records, flag it with your order and check the receiving organisation's supporting-evidence requirements.
Seals, stamps and legalisation
We reproduce the seals, signatures, endorsements and any verification details actually present on the copy you send, whether it was issued in India or in Sri Lanka. Obtaining the record, having it authenticated for overseas use and having it translated are separate steps with separate authorities, so follow the instructions of the organisation receiving your documents. Older Tamil records are handwritten in cursive Tamil script, and illegible fields are marked rather than guessed.
How Australian agencies read this document
Skills assessors and universities read transcripts to map subject content and credit load to Australian equivalents. Grading-scale legends are translated rather than converted, because the assessor applies its own conversion.
Required by VETASSESS, Engineers Australia, ACS, TRA, CPA Australia and CA ANZ, by universities assessing credit transfer and admission, and by AHPRA for regulated health qualifications.
What we check before certifying
Most delays are caused by the source document, not the translation. These are the issues we look for on Tamil academic transcripts and raise with you before the file is certified:
- An initial standing for the father's name being entered as a given name on the Australian form, producing a name-discrepancy request
- Assuming a certificate needs no translation without checking which languages it actually carries and what the recipient asks for
- Certificates sent with pages, seals or verification details cropped out, so the record cannot be read in full
- Anna University consolidated marksheets missing the reverse-side grading key, which assessors need to convert the CGPA
- Sri Lankan documents ordered as Indian Tamil, when the issuing authority, legalisation path and verification differ completely
- Submitting a results summary instead of the full transcript listing every subject
- Multi-page transcripts uploaded out of order or with a page missing, which breaks the credit total
- Converting foreign grades to an Australian scale — assessors treat that as tampering, so we reproduce the original scale
Pages, pricing and turnaround
Transcripts are the most page-heavy document we handle; a full degree transcript often runs four to eight pages at $59 per page. The exact count is confirmed on upload, and multi-page bundles are delivered within 24 hours like any other complete order.
