French birth record (acte de naissance)

Acte de Naissance Translation for Australia

A French acte de naissance is issued in more than one format, and they do not contain the same information. Check which version the receiving organisation asks for before you request a copy from the mairie. To order a translation, go to Start your order.

Copie intégrale, extrait avec filiation, extrait sans filiation

Service-Public sets out the three formats: the copie intégrale reproduces the information in the birth record, the extrait avec filiation is a summary that includes parent information, and the extrait sans filiation is a summary without it. Marginal annotations may appear on any of these. Source: Service-Public — Acte de naissance, official verification date 14 August 2026, read 10 September 2026.

    • Copie intégrale — the fullest version, reproducing the information recorded in the birth entry
    • Extrait avec filiation — a summary that includes parent information
    • Extrait sans filiation — a summary without parent information
    • Marginal annotations (mentions marginales) may appear on any of the formats, and are translated as printed on your copy
    • The three formats are not interchangeable: they carry different information, so a recipient asking for one will not necessarily accept another
    • If your recipient needs parent details, a translation of an extrait sans filiation cannot supply them — request the right format first
    • French domestic recency rules do not automatically apply to an Australian submission; ask your recipient

How we translate a French birth record

We translate the document you send, exactly as issued, by a NAATI-certified French translator — including the mairie details, register references, any marginal annotations and any signature or verification panel. We cannot add information that is not in your document, so check the format before ordering. TransLingo translates the record you supply: we do not issue, obtain, verify, notarise or apostille French civil records, and the receiving organisation decides what it requires. France-issued civil records are one part of our wider French translations service.
