Brazilian criminal record (antecedentes criminais)
Certidão de Antecedentes Criminais Translation into English
Brazilians asked for an overseas police check normally obtain the Polícia Federal's Certidão de Antecedentes Criminais (CAC), commonly called the "nada consta", sometimes together with a state atestado de antecedentes from the Polícia Civil. This page explains what the federal certificate does and does not report, and how to prepare it for NAATI-certified English translation from $59 per page, within 24 hours.
What the Polícia Federal certificate reports — and what it does not
The Polícia Federal issues its certificate in respect of records held in its own systems, and lists state and federal criminal certificates separately from it. Source: gov.br/pf, read 17 September 2026. It is not automatically the same evidence as a state Polícia Civil certificate, a federal or state court certidão, an electoral certificate or a military record.
- Certidão de Antecedentes Criminais (CAC) — the federal certificate, reporting records in Polícia Federal systems
- Atestado de antecedentes — issued by a state Polícia Civil and covering state police records
- Certidões from the Justiça Federal or a state court — court records, a different source again
- Electoral and military certificates are separate documents and are not covered by the CAC
- Portugal's certificado do registo criminal is a different country's document, covered on its own page
- The Australian organisation receiving your documents decides which evidence it requires
Issued by: Polícia Federal do Brasil and state Polícia Civil
Also searched as: atestado de antecedentes · certidão negativa Polícia Federal · certidão de distribuição Justiça Federal

How we translate Brazilian criminal-record certificates
Our NAATI-certified Portuguese translators render the certificate's status wording exactly — including "nada consta" phrasing — and preserve the CPF, RG, protocol number and validation code so the Australian officer can verify the original with the issuing authority. TransLingo translates the record you supply: we do not issue, obtain, verify, notarise or apostille Brazilian criminal-record certificates, and the receiving organisation decides what it requires.
- Certidão de Antecedentes Criminais (CAC) — Polícia Federal
- Atestado de antecedentes — state Polícia Civil
- Certidões de distribuição from the Justiça Federal where requested
- CPF, protocol and validation codes reproduced exactly
- Apostille from a Brazilian cartório translated alongside
