Chinese Bank Statement Translation银行流水 / 存款证明

Chinese financial evidence is usually a transaction record (银行流水 or 交易明细) or a deposit certificate (存款证明). Deposit certificates often state that the funds are frozen until a certain date. We translate every line, including the counterparty names, summaries (摘要) and the bank's business seal.

    Names, script and upload tips

Counterparty and personal names are given in pinyin with the Chinese characters kept, so transfers can be matched to people named elsewhere in your application.

    • Make sure the red business seal is visible on every page that has one
    • If the deposit certificate is already bilingual, only translate it if the recipient asks for the Chinese-only text
    • Upload only the months requested

    Frequently asked questions

Who issues a bank statement in China

Statements from ICBC, Bank of China, China Construction Bank and CMB are issued in renminbi with the branch chop applied. Balances and every transaction description are translated so a case officer can trace the source of funds.

Chinese civil documents come from several distinct systems. Birth medical certificates have been issued by hospitals under the National Health Commission since 1996; marriage and divorce certificates come from Civil Affairs Bureaus as booklets with a photograph; and notarial certificates (公证书) are issued by public notary offices as bilingual booklets. Household registration is recorded in the hukou (户口簿) booklet.

What your certified English translation reproduces

Every certified translation we issue is a complete rendering of the source document — not a summary. For a Chinese bank statement that means:

    • Account holder's name and address as printed by the bank
    • Account number, IBAN or local equivalent and the branch identifier
    • Statement period, opening and closing balances and the currency
    • Every transaction line with its date, description and amount
    • Balance columns and any interest, fee or overdraft notation
    • Bank name, branch stamp, and any electronic-statement authentication note

    Chinese names, dates and script

Chinese names are written family name first in simplified characters, with pinyin romanisation on the passport. The same character set can produce different pinyin across Mandarin and Cantonese conventions, and Hong Kong and Taiwan documents use traditional characters. Dates are written year-month-day, and the identity card number encodes date of birth and region.

    Seals, stamps and legalisation

Red official seals (公章) are the primary authentication and are described rather than reproduced. Since China acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention in November 2023, documents for Australian use may carry an apostille issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or an authorised provincial foreign affairs office, replacing the older consular legalisation route for many applicants.

How Australian agencies read this document

Financial capacity evidence is read for the pattern, not just the closing figure. Case officers look at how long funds have been held, where they came from and whether the account belongs to the applicant or a sponsor.

Used for Genuine Student financial capacity, visitor visa funds, sponsorship and assurance of support evidence, and to corroborate joint finances in a partner application.

    What we check before certifying

Most delays are caused by the source document, not the translation. These are the issues we look for on Chinese bank statements and raise with you before the file is certified:

    • Ordering a second translation without first checking whether the existing English pages meet the receiving organisation's request
    • A hukou booklet where only the personal page is scanned, when the household relationship pages are what evidence the family link
    • Traditional-character documents from Hong Kong or Taiwan treated as mainland-issued, which points at the wrong issuing authority entirely
    • A single-page balance screenshot rather than the bank-issued statement covering the required period
    • A large recent deposit with no accompanying explanation of its source
    • Transaction descriptions left untranslated, so a case officer cannot follow the money trail

    Pages, pricing and turnaround

Statements are charged per page at $59 with the count confirmed on upload, which matters because a six-month history can run to many pages. Tell us if only a specific period is needed and we translate that range.
