Dutch Birth Certificate Translation (geboorteakte)
Translate Your Dutch Birth Certificate for Australia
Need a Dutch geboorteakte translated for an Australian application? We provide NAATI-certified Dutch to English translation of the birth record issued by the gemeente, at $59 per page with delivery within 24 hours. The Netherlands issues more than one document from the birth register, and some municipalities also issue a multilingual international extract — check which document the receiving organisation has asked for, and whether an English translation is actually needed, before you order.
Which Dutch birth document do you hold?
A birth in the Netherlands is registered with the gemeente where it took place, and documents are then issued from the civil-status registers (Government.nl — registering a birth; Government.nl — certificates of civil status). The versions available and their exact layout differ between municipalities, so read the title printed on your own document rather than assuming one format.
- Geboorteakte — the birth certificate drawn up and held in the gemeente's civil-status register
- Afschrift van de geboorteakte — a full copy of the register entry, which normally reproduces the recorded details in full
- Uittreksel van de geboorteakte — an extract, which is a shorter statement of selected details and may not show everything a full copy shows
- Internationaal uittreksel (meertalig) — several municipalities, including The Hague, issue a multilingual international extract alongside the Dutch-language copy; if you hold one, confirm with the receiving organisation whether a certified English translation is still required before ordering
- Uittreksel BRP (Basisregistratie Personen) — a personal-records database extract, which is a different document from a birth certificate; see our BRP extract page
- Belgian records are issued by a Belgian dienst burgerzaken under different rules, even though they are also in Dutch
- Send a complete, legible copy of every page, including headers, footers, register references, seals and any apostille or legalisation page
NAATI Certification
What a Dutch birth record usually shows, and how we translate it
A geboorteakte is a structured register document rather than a narrative certificate. It normally identifies the municipality and the register reference, the child's given names and surname, the date, time and place of birth, the parents as recorded, and the civil-status officer who drew up the act; later events may appear as notations. Our NAATI-certified Dutch translators reproduce the layout of your copy in English — the field labels, each entry as printed, the certification wording, seals and the signature block — so an Australian officer can match the translation line by line against the original. TransLingo translates the document you send: we do not issue, obtain, verify, notarise or apostille Dutch records, and the receiving organisation decides what it requires.
- Geboorteakte and afschrift van de geboorteakte (gemeente)
- Uittreksel van de geboorteakte, translated as printed
- Internationaal meertalig uittreksel, where a translation is still requested
- Apostille and legalisation pages translated alongside the record
- Later notations and annotations translated as they appear

Official sources and related pages
The Dutch government explains birth registration and the certificates issued from the civil-status registers: Government.nl — registering a birth and Government.nl — certificates of civil status. The municipality of The Hague sets out the Dutch-language copy alongside the multilingual international extract: denhaag.nl — certificates and extracts. Requirements, availability and fees are set by those authorities, not by us.
