Partner Visa Subclass 100 — document translation guide

The Subclass 100 visa is the permanent stage of the offshore partner visa pathway. Applicants generally progress from a Subclass 309 visa. Certified translations may be required for documents not in English. For the latest requirements, always check homeaffairs.gov.au.

Who Is the Partner Visa Subclass 100 Generally For?

The Partner Visa (Subclass 100) is the permanent offshore partner visa, lodged at the same time as the temporary Subclass 309 as a combined application. Once the temporary Subclass 309 has been granted and the required period has passed (generally 2 years from the application date), the Department of Home Affairs assesses the permanent Subclass 100.

The applicant must demonstrate that the relationship with the sponsoring partner remains genuine and continuing. The Subclass 100 grants permanent residence, allowing the holder to live and work permanently in Australia.

For the permanent stage assessment, updated evidence is required — recent financial records, updated statutory declarations from witnesses, evidence of the ongoing relationship, and updated police clearance certificates where previous certificates have expired. Any new documents not in English must be accompanied by a NAATI-certified translation.

    Common Mistakes to Avoid

A few of the issues we most often see with documents prepared for visa applications.

    • Submitting uncertified or self-translated documents — Australian authorities generally require NAATI-certified translations for documents not in English.

    • Providing incomplete translations that omit stamps, seals or marginal notes from the original document.

    • Using documents that have expired or been superseded (for example, an old passport bio page).

    • Submitting low-quality scans or photos where text is partially unreadable.

    • Mismatched names across documents without a supporting change-of-name certificate or statutory declaration.

    • Missing pages — translators can only certify what they can clearly see.
