French Academic Transcript Translation
Translate Your French Academic Transcript for Australia
A NAATI-certified English translation of your French academic transcript — relevé de notes — is accepted by the Department of Home Affairs, state and territory authorities, universities and assessing bodies. Upload a clear scan and we return a signed, stamped PDF, usually within 24 hours.
Why your relevé de notes must be translated
Australian authorities only accept documents written in English, or documents accompanied by a NAATI-certified English translation. Your relevé de notes establishes subjects studied, credit load and grades, and it is relied on across the following processes.
- Required for skills assessments with VETASSESS, Engineers Australia, ACS and TRA
- Needed for university admission and credit transfer
- Used for points-tested visas where qualifications are claimed
- Required for professional registration in regulated occupations
- Needed where a degree was completed only partly at the issuing institution
NAATI Certification
What is a NAATI Certified Translation?
A NAATI-certified translation carries the translator's stamp, signature and certification number, and reproduces the source document in full rather than summarising it. French records distinguish the nom de naissance from the nom d'usage taken on marriage, and this is the single most common source of name mismatch in Australian applications. Accents (é, è, ç, ï) are dropped by Australian databases, so we reproduce the printed form and note the equivalence.
- Commonly required for Department of Home Affairs applications
- Used for university, government and employment submissions
- Includes the translator's certification statement and details

Frequently asked questions
Who issues a academic transcript in France
A relevé de notes is issued by the scolarité of the university or grande école. French higher education uses ECTS credits and a 0–20 marking scale where 10 is the pass mark and marks above 16 are rare — a distribution Australian assessors misread unless the scale is stated, so the legend is always reproduced.
French civil-status records are held by the service de l'état civil at the mairie of the commune where the event was registered, and are issued as a copie intégrale, an extrait avec filiation or an extrait sans filiation — three different documents that Australian agencies treat very differently. Events involving French nationals abroad are held instead by the Service central d'état civil in Nantes. Recent extracts are laser-printed on plain stock with a mairie stamp; documents from the 1960s and 1970s are typed on registry forms, and older communal registers are handwritten.
What your certified English translation reproduces
Every certified translation we issue is a complete rendering of the source document — not a summary. For a French academic transcript that means:
- Every subject or unit name, the period studied and the result recorded
- Credit values and the local grading scale, reproduced with the scale legend
- Cumulative averages and any classification or honours statement
- Enrolment and completion dates, mode of study and language of instruction where stated
- Institution name, faculty, registrar signature and page-of-page numbering
- Verification codes or online-verification references printed on the document
French names, dates and script
French records distinguish the nom de naissance, which never changes, from the nom d'usage a spouse may adopt on marriage — and this distinction, not spelling, is the leading cause of name mismatch in Australian applications. Accents (é, è, ê, ç, ï) are dropped by Australian systems. Dates run day/month/year, and the mentions marginales printed in the margin of a copie intégrale record marriage, divorce, PACS and death against the original entry; they are part of the document and are always translated.
Seals, stamps and legalisation
Expect the commune's stamp, the officier d'état civil's signature and, on documents for use abroad, an apostille issued by the cour d'appel of the district where the document originates. French agencies increasingly issue EU multilingual standard forms under Regulation 2016/1191, which reduce legalisation formalities inside the EU but do nothing for an Australian application — a NAATI-certified English translation is still required. Older communal entries are cursive and abbreviation-heavy, and unreadable passages are marked as illegible rather than reconstructed.
How Australian agencies read this document
Skills assessors and universities read transcripts to map subject content and credit load to Australian equivalents. Grading-scale legends are translated rather than converted, because the assessor applies its own conversion.
Required by VETASSESS, Engineers Australia, ACS, TRA, CPA Australia and CA ANZ, by universities assessing credit transfer and admission, and by AHPRA for regulated health qualifications.
What we check before certifying
Most delays are caused by the source document, not the translation. These are the issues we look for on French academic transcripts and raise with you before the file is certified:
- Ordering an extrait sans filiation when the Australian agency needs parentage — only the copie intégrale or extrait avec filiation shows the parents
- Cropping the mentions marginales out of a scan, which removes the record of a divorce or a name change the case officer is looking for
- Presenting a nom d'usage on the passport and a nom de naissance on the acte de naissance without explaining the relationship between them
- Assuming an EU multilingual standard form is self-sufficient for Home Affairs — it is not
- Submitting a results summary instead of the full transcript listing every subject
- Multi-page transcripts uploaded out of order or with a page missing, which breaks the credit total
- Converting foreign grades to an Australian scale — assessors treat that as tampering, so we reproduce the original scale
Pages, pricing and turnaround
Transcripts are the most page-heavy document we handle; a full degree transcript often runs four to eight pages at $59 per page. The exact count is confirmed on upload, and multi-page bundles are delivered within 24 hours like any other complete order.
