eVisitor Subclass 651 — document translation guide
The Subclass 651 eVisitor is a free electronic visitor visa for eligible European passport holders. For the latest requirements, always check homeaffairs.gov.au.
Who Is the eVisitor Subclass 651 Generally For?
The Subclass 651 eVisitor is a free electronic visa available to passport holders from most European Union member states and several other eligible European countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and others. Like the Subclass 601 ETA, the eVisitor is not a physical label or stamp — it is stored electronically linked to the holder's passport. Applications are made online at no charge.
The eVisitor allows stays of up to 3 months per visit within a 12-month period from the date of grant. It covers tourism, visiting family and friends, or business visitor activities. It does not permit work in Australia. Spanish-speaking visitors from Spain may be eligible for the eVisitor depending on Spain's current eligibility status under the programme. Nationals of Latin American countries are not eligible for the eVisitor and must apply for the Subclass 600 Visitor Visa.
When are certified translations required? The eVisitor requires minimal documentation and certified translations are rarely needed at application stage. If the Department of Home Affairs requests additional supporting documents, any non-English documents must be accompanied by a NAATI-certified translation.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
A few of the issues we most often see with documents prepared for visa applications.
Submitting uncertified or self-translated documents — Australian authorities generally require NAATI-certified translations for documents not in English.
Providing incomplete translations that omit stamps, seals or marginal notes from the original document.
Using documents that have expired or been superseded (for example, an old passport bio page).
Submitting low-quality scans or photos where text is partially unreadable.
Mismatched names across documents without a supporting change-of-name certificate or statutory declaration.
Missing pages — translators can only certify what they can clearly see.
